apple of discord

over the last few years people have been discovering my old band apple of discord on youtube & discogs. it’s all young people which is very strange to me but i guess there’s a subset of kids seeking out very obscure indie-emo from the 00s & we certainly fit that label. i am grateful.

i’ve been mailing out cds & old buttons, answering emails & dms, & talking to nelson about old songs & recordings that i have almost no memory making. when i say that part of my life was a lifetime ago, i really mean it, & listening to these songs nowadays makes them easy for me to criticize: the songs are too long, the lyrics are amateurish, why was my singing voice so high?

but i also have a deep appreciation for them now that i didn’t have then. there’s a sincerity, imagination, & willingness to not do the most obvious thing that could have only been made by people too young to know any better.

songs can be a trap but they can also help you hold on.
